"Every frame is a decision — what to include, what to leave out, and the precise moment when light and life finally align."

About
Van Thurston

A lifetime in aviation instilled in me a deep appreciation for the elevated view — the way a familiar landscape becomes something else entirely when seen from above, full of surprises that you simply cannot anticipate from the ground.

I've always been drawn to weather: the drama of a storm rolling in, the way fog settles into a valley at dawn, the fleeting quality of light that makes the same scene look entirely different from one moment to the next. That fascination with light and contrast is at the heart of everything I shoot.

I'm equally captivated by age and classic beauty — a weathered wooden door, a hand-laid cobblestone street, a vintage mahogany boat on still water. These things have a story that a perfectly modern surface never will. Travel has taken me across continents chasing exactly that: the honest, unhurried details that time has shaped.

The camera is just a way of holding onto what would otherwise disappear.
